Technology-to-Market Advisor

Jon Glass serves as a Technology-to-Market Advisor at the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E). He brings to the agency over twenty years of executive experience in business development, venture capital, technology commercialization, new business creation and IP licensing. From 1998 to 2014, Jon served in multiple executive roles at General Electric. He was senior managing director for business development at GE Licensing, managing director at GE Equity, and managing director at GE Commercial Financial Services. After GE, Jon co-founded two technology start-up companies, Wise Labs and Vener8 Technologies, where he led strategic partnership, product development and revenue generation activities. Most recently, Jon was the Director of Venture Accelerations at National Grid Partners, where he oversaw the NextGrid Alliance, a collaboration network of 100 power utilities that fosters industry-wide innovation to accelerate the energy transition. Jon received an MBA, with honors, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an AB, magna cum laude, from Harvard College. He is a co-inventor on two US patents and a former member of the Research Advisory Committee of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).

    ARPA-E | Integrating Variable Renewable Resources into the Grid

    How do you manage the grid to ensure reliable and affordable electricity as power generation shifts from dispatchable conventional resources to intermittent renewable energy assets like wind and solar? ARPA-E is working with the world’s leading power system modeling experts to develop new algorithms and software systems to better quantify asset- and system-level risk and optimize grid management during the energy transition.
