Andrés Gluski

President & Chief Executive Officer

Andrés Gluski was named President and CEO of the AES Corporation in 2011.  Under his leadership, AES has become one of the leading renewable and clean technology companies in the world. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), AES has consistently been rated as one of the top two largest sellers globally of renewable power to corporate customers. AES' record for innovation has been recognized by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) with a record seven Edison Awards and Fluence, AES' JV with Siemens, has consistently been named the #1 grid scale energy storage integrator.

AES has an aggressive carbon reduction strategy including the intent to exit the majority of its coal generation by 2025 and achieve net zero carbon emissions from electricity sales by 2040.

Andrés serves as Chairman of the Council of the Americas/Americas Society and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of EEI.  He is also on the Board of Waste Management and the US-India and US-Brazil CEO Forums. He earned his MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Virginia.

    One of COP28’s big breakthroughs was a pledge to triple global renewable energy capacity by 2030. But reaching this ambitious goal will require new policies and a significant ramp up in investments. It will also require accelerating deployment across both mature markets such as China, Europe and North America as well as the “Global South,” which have substantially different advantages and challenges. How achievable is this goal for different governments? What are the main obstacles in key markets? What can be done to get the world closer to this “tripling” goal?

We are beginning a multidimensional transition: a multispeed, multifueled and multi-technology transition with different road maps and end points for different countries. How can the deployment and scaling of new technologies be accelerated?  What will be the approaches to implementing the COP 28 commitments?
