joined GMZ Energy as CEO in 2012. Previously he was the President of E-Ton Solar Tech., Taiwan, joining the group in 2008 and serving until April 2010. Mr. Chao has also served as CEO of Adema Technology and CEO of Gloria Solar International Holding; both companies are subsidiaries of E-Ton Solar group. Prior to E-Ton he was Vice President of Commercial of Cambridge Display Technology (CDT), a UK company, before its acquisition by Sumitomo Chemical in September 2007. At CDT Mr. Chao was responsible for global sales and market developments. Prior to CDT Mr. Chao was the general manager of Chemical Mechanical Polishing product group at Applied Materials Asia. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Tsinghua University, a master’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso, and an MBA from Purdue University.
GMZ Energy uses nanotechnology to significantly improve the performance of thermoelectric materials. Their first product, a thermovoltaic collector, simultaneously produces heat, hot water, and electricity in the same footprint for residential and commercial users. Other potential applications include optimizing cooling in refrigerators and air conditioners and capturing energy from automotive exhaust streams and other waste heat sources. The company was founded in 2007 by MIT professor and researcher Gang Chen and Zhifeng Ren, a professor of physics at Boston College. Investors include KPCB, Energy Technology Ventures, I2BF, BP Alternative Energy, and Mitsui Global Investment.
